Description of the Ericeira Portugal Tour
If you’re looking for a day tour that blends culture, coast, and countryside, this private trip to Ericeira Portugal and Mafra is your perfect escape from Lisbon.
Your day begins with a hotel pick-up in Lisbon. You will head west, away from the crowds, toward the calm beauty of Mafra. Your first stop is the iconic Convent of Mafra, one of the most important baroque buildings in Portugal. Built-in the 18th century by King João V as a promise to God for an heir, this colossal structure houses a palace, a basilica, and a library with over 36,000 ancient books.
Before lunch, you’ll make a quick stop at the José Franco Village, a delightful outdoor museum created by a local sculptor who built an entire village from clay to preserve the traditional rural life of Mafra’s past.
Then it’s off to the coast. Your guide will lead you to Ericeira, a picturesque fishing town with whitewashed houses, narrow streets, and striking views over the Atlantic. Since 2011, Ericeira has been an official World Surfing Reserve, known for its laid-back atmosphere and excellent seafood.
Here, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the seaside restaurants. From grilled fish to octopus salad, Ericeira’s cuisine is as authentic as possible.
To top off the day, you’ll visit a local winery just outside Ericeira. You’ll tour the property, learn about the wine production process in the region, and, of course, enjoy a tasting session with regional wines and snacks. (Optional – let us know when booking if you want to skip this stop.)
After a full day of culture, coastline, and wine, you’ll head back to Lisbon relaxed, enriched, and full of memories.
