THE BEST RESTAURANTS IN LISBON

Good news for the foodies! We made a selection of the best restaurants in Lisbon where you can eat like a local.

ZÉ DA MOURARIA

Sharing is caring! This precious gem in Mouraria neighborhood has a reputation for it’s enormous portions. So if you’re not alone, might as well order for 1 person instead of 2. You’ll finding portraits of fado singers born in that neighborhood, and don’t be surprise, if after a few glasses of wine you find yourself witnessing an improvised fado show! The ambience is vibrant and the food is delicious, our favorites are the “bacalhau (codfish) com grão e batata a murro”, “bacalhau no churrasco” (grilled codfish), and “bifinhos ao alinho” (garlic steak).

The menu changes daily and most of the times it’s not written in english, but no need to panic – the waiters will recommend you the best deal of the day!

If you can, go earl. This place is popular and it’s normally full. Reservation is usually necessary or you can try their second space, Zé da Mouraria 2.

O VELHO EURICO

You’ll probably eat in between locals at this one, since is a perfect example of what the locals like to call “tasca”.

In the heart of Mouraria, this small yet cozy space where you can try the best of portuguese recipes will win you over by the time you read the daily menu on the blackboard hanging on the wall. We recommend to order several dishes so you can share with your friends and get a bite of everything. Our favorites: delicious “Bacalhau à brás (codfish)”, the famous “Iscas de cebolada (pork liver)” and “Rancho à Minhota (regional stew)”.

The service is quick, nice but raw, almost like you are at an old tavern! Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of this place and add your name to the walls before you leave.

Reservation is highly recommended.

PINÓQUIO

Pinóquio conquered the portuguese 40 years ago, when the owners decided to create this iconic “Marisqueira” at Praça dos restauradores. It’s not only the location that is phenomenal but also the food – trust us, it will taste as good as it smells!
The seafood is the main dish but this restaurant will present you with a diversified menu with lots options for top-quality fish and meat. The service is friendly and you choose between indoors or outdoors areas.

If you wanna do it like a local, order the classic Menu da bola: beer, amêijoas à bulhão de pato, clams, and pica-pau. It won’t fail you!

CERVEJARIA RAMIRO

If you are looking for a quiet and low-money meal please choose another one from this list. If you are in for some delicious top-quality seafood, this is it.

Ramiro’s is one of the best and most busy restaurants in Lisbon (since the 50’s!), so we
have a few insider tips for you:

Go early (before 8pm), midweek, at lunch time. Once you are there, don’t be too picky. You’ll walk in, get a cold beer from the bar and wait for you number to be called, they will seat you wherever they have space, so just go with the flow.

The menu includes different types of clams, crabs and lobsters, all following the rules of portuguese recipes, but we have some favorites: Gamba tigre grelhada, garlic clams, stuffed spider crabs, garlic shrimps, and lots of bread for the sausse!

Keep in mind that this house is famous for charging by weight, so is smart to ask the waiter the actual size of the dish. One serving could enough for 2-3 people and you can make different orders and share to make the most out of the meal.

O ÚLTIMO PORTO

Not the most glamorous place in Lisbon, not the easiest place to find… but oh my, they know how to grill fish! One of the best restaurants in Lisbon to eat grilled fish for lunch.

Hidden at the docks (Docas de Alcântara), in the middle of big containers, to find this lisbon gem you can use “Ponte Móvel da Rocha do Conde D’Óbidos” for your reference on maps. You need to cross a small bridge and keep walking right, you’ll find the entrance at the corner of a building that looks locked down. Use your senses and just follow the smell! Without waiting too long for a table, you can find on the menu all types of fish but they are really famous for the portuguese sardines!

The service is nice but can be slow paced sometimes, so make sure you’re not on a tight schedule for the day!
